Supporting students in a full-boarding environment

For students attending a full-boarding school, academic life has a different rhythm from that of a conventional day school. Lessons sit alongside supervised study, co-curricular activities and the wider demands of boarding life.

Online tuition therefore needs to be purposeful and flexible. Lessons can focus closely on whatever will provide the greatest benefit at that point: a difficult topic, preparation for an assessment, analysis of examination questions or consolidation of material already covered at school.

For parents whose child is boarding away from home, I also maintain a shared record of our tutorials. This provides a straightforward way for both student and parent to see what we have covered, the progress being made and any areas that require further attention.

How my A Level Physics tuition works in Appi

    We start with an online meeting to discuss the student’s current position, their goals and any particular concerns. It also gives student and parent an opportunity to meet me before deciding whether to proceed. There is no charge and no commitment.

  3. Weekly one-to-one lessons
    Lessons are delivered online via Zoom, Teams or Google Meet. Shared screens and a virtual whiteboard allow us to work together on explanations, diagrams, calculations and examination questions. Japan’s time zone can work well for online tuition from the UK, and lesson times can be arranged around the student’s school and boarding commitments where availability permits.
  4. Ongoing feedback and support
    I keep a shared record of tutorials which remains accessible to both students and parents. It provides continuity between lessons and makes it easier to monitor progress, priorities and targets.
